Meet Our Preceptors

Allen Hospital Residency Program

nullLisa Veit, PharmD, BCPS (Residency Program Director) joined Allen Hospital in 2007. She graduated from University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with her PharmD in 2005. She then completed her pharmacy practice residency at Alegent Health- Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE the following year. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the University of Iowa - College of Pharmacy, precepting a General Hospital rotation for APPE students and hosting IPPE students on their hospital experience. Her pharmacotherapeutic interests include critical care, infectious disease and emergency medicine. Lisa enjoys spending time with her husband and four children, in addition to reading, crafting and cheering on the Hawkeyes.


nullAmy Kacher, PharmD, (Residency Coordinator) joined Allen  Hospital as a full-time staff/clinical pharmacist in 2001. She graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2000 and completed a pharmacy residency with emphasis in family medicine at Northeast Iowa Family Practice Center in Waterloo, Iowa in 2001. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, precepting an Acute Care rotation for APPE students. Professional interests include cardiology, anticoagulation, emergency medicine, and critical care.


Natalie Hunter, PharmD, CDE (Regional Director of Pharmacy) joined Allen Hospital in 2012 and became Director of Pharmacy in 2020. She graduated from University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with her PharmD in 2010. She completed her PGY-1 community pharmacy residency with Hy-Vee in Iowa City the following year. She completed her Certified Diabetes Educator certificate in 2012. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, precepting introductory practice experience students. In 2017, she helped initiate the Community PGY-1 residency program with UnityPoint- Waterloo. Her pharmacotherapeutic interests include diabetes and mental health.


nullJulia Fifield, PharmD joined Allen Hospital as a clinical pharmacist in 2018. She is originally from Naperville, Illinois. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa in May of 2017, and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Allen Hospital from 2017-2018. She currently serves as the pharmacist on local pediatric and perinatal committees. Her professional interests include pediatrics, infectious diseases, critical care, and emergency medicine.


Nupur Chopra Harkness, PharmD, MPA joined Allen Hospital in July 2015. She graduated from Drake University College of Pharmacy with a PharmD and Master's in Public Administration in 2015. She completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Allen Hospital from 2015-2016. She was then hired on to join the Allen team with her primary role as the emergency department clinical pharmacist and preceptor of the PGY-1 emergency medicine pharmacy elective. Her professional interests are in emergency medicine, critical care, infectious disease and anticoagulation.


nullJeff Martin, B.S. joined Allen Hospital in 1981. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 1981. He has held various leadership positions in the pharmacy department and is currently the Clinical Pharmacy Manager. He has been involved in the formation of almost all of the clinical programs in the pharmacy. He is currently the secretary of the P&T committee and is a member of a number of multidisciplinary committees in the hospital. He is also a member of various UnityPoint Health system committees including the pharmacy application formulary subcommittee and Willow User committee. His passion is infectious disease and co-precepts the infectious disease learning experience.


Mackenzie Monroe, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP joined Allen Hospital in October 2019. She graduated from Iowa State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural biochemistry and a minor in genetics. She continued her education at Belmont University in Nashville, TN where she received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2012. Mackenzie went on to complete her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. Following residency she continued working at MercyOne in critical care, the emergency department, and pediatrics before coming to Allen. Her professional interests include critical care, emergency medicine, and infectious diseases.


Beth Nichols, BA, PharmD has been with Allen Hospital since 2005. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2001 with a BA in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She went on to the University of Iowa where she received her PharmD in 2005. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa where she precepts General Hospital APPE students. She is also the preceptor for the longitudinal pain learning experience and the Palliative Care/Hospice learning elective for the PGY1 residency. Professional interests include pain management, hospice, palliative care and geriatrics.


nullJacob Peterson, PharmD received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa in May of 2016. He is originally from Waterloo, IA. He joined Allen Hospital following his residency year here at Allen Hospital. He is chair of the antibiotic stewardship committee. Also, he is currently a preceptor for the infectious disease learning experience for the residency program. His clinical interests include critical care, emergency medicine, and infectious disease.


nullLinsey Schuldt, PharmD, BCGP joined Allen Hospital in 2004. She graduated from University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with her PharmD in 2003 and completed her pharmacy residency with an emphasis in family medicine at Northeast Iowa Family Practice Center in Waterloo, IA the following year. In 2017, she achieved board accreditation in geriatrics and offers a geriatrics elective with the residency program. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor for University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, precepting an Acute Care rotation for APPE students. Linsey serves on the Falls Committee and Patient Safety Committee in the hospital, and on the Palliative Care team. Her pharmacotherapeutic interests include palliative care, long-term care, and geriatrics.


nullAdam Wilcox, PharmD, BCPS joined Allen Hospital as a clinical pharmacist in 2016. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 2013 and completed his PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Allen Hospital from 2013-2014. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and enjoys teaching and precepting students. Adam is the current preceptor for the internal medicine learning experience for the residency. His professional interests include anticoagulation, diabetes, COPD/Asthma, and infectious disease.


nullAndrew Washburn, PharmD joined Allen Hospital as a full-time anticoagulation clinical pharmacist in July 2013. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2012. He completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Allen Hospital from 2012-2013. He precepts APPE and IPPE students and enjoys teaching pharmacy students, providers, and nurses. Professional interests include anticoagulation, cardiology, infectious disease, emergency and critical care medicine. He anticipates teaching classes at a college of pharmacy. He also plans to create an APPE learning experience with focus in ambulatory clinical care in the future.

Community-Based Residency Program

Natalie Hunter, PharmD, CDE (Regional Director of Pharmacy) joined Allen Hospital in 2012 and became Director of Pharmacy in 2020. She graduated from University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with her PharmD in 2010. She completed her PGY-1 community pharmacy residency with Hy-Vee in Iowa City the following year. Amy Bucknell, PharmD joined Allen Hospital in 1999. She graduated from the University Of Iowa College Of Pharmacy and has served as a Retail Pharmacy Manager in the Waterloo region since 2006. She credits her outstanding retail teams with the growth and development of programs like Med-to-Bed through Allen Clinic Pharmacy, SNF discharge through Prairie Parkway Pharmacy, Discharge Med Rec, MedSafe Drug Disposal, Immunization and Med Packaging Services and many others. She currently takes a lead role in the Prairie Parkway Care Coordination Committee and is active in the UPH system OPOT (UPH outpatient pharmacy operations) team. She enjoys learning from our community residents, IPPE and APPE students at both Allen Clinic and Prairie Parkway Pharmacies. Her professional interests include retail pharmacy process improvement and sustainability.


Chelsea Carlson, PharmD Chelsea has worked for UnityPoint Health at Prairie Parkway Pharmacy since the building first opened in 2016. She is a graduate of the University Of Iowa College Of Pharmacy and serves as the Lead Pharmacist and Residency Coordinator at Prairie Parkway. Chelsea enjoys the unique experience Prairie Parkway offers in which she has the retail services she enjoys as well as time spent in the family medicine clinic and site management duties. She is a continuous learner and likes the experience that being a IPPE, APPE and residency preceptor has to offer. She hopes to be part of the continued growth the pharmacy and residency programs offer. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, including three sons, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.


Erin Schreiber, PharmD, CDE joined UnityPoint-Waterloo as a clinical pharmacist in 2018. She received her doctor of pharmacy from the University of Iowa in May of 2017 and completed her PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency at Prairie Parkway Pharmacy. She currently serves as a pharmacist for internal medicine and family medicine clinics across the Waterloo region. Her professional interest include diabetes, geriatrics, COPD, and anticoagulation.


Amanda Waggett, PharmD, CDE joined UnityPoint Health - Prairie Parkway Pharmacy as a clinical pharmacist in 2018. She graduated from University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with her PharmD in 2017 and completed her PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency with UnityPoint from 2017-2018. She received her Certified Diabetes Educator certificate in 2020. Her professional interests include diabetes, anticoagulation, and chronic disease state management.


Lisa Duric, PharmD graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 2014, and started with UnityPoint Health Waterloo in 2016. She worked with the inpatient pharmacy, then when the opportunity arose to join the newly created Prairie Parkway Pharmacy and Clinics she took it. Lisa enjoys the combination of retail and clinic pharmacy she experiences at Prairie Parkway. Her professional interests include inventory management and mental health.


Nicole Sivertsen, PharmD joined UnityPoint Health in December 2016. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 2015. She currently serves as Pharmacist Team Lead at Allen Clinic Pharmacy and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa where she precepts Community Pharmacy APPE students. Her pharmacotherapeutic interests include: chronic disease management and immunizations.
