The Understanding Childbirth: Multiples class is a six-hour session, held on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and is designed for anyone expecting more than one baby. Due to the length of this class we encourage participants to bring a snack and/or drink. There will be a break for lunch in the hospital cafeteria. The cafeteria accepts cash or credit card. You are also welcome to bring your own food.
This class covers essential information specific to multiple pregnancy and delivery, including types of twins, what you can expect during and after delivery, both vaginal and cesarean birth information, and what happens in the days after delivery. During class, you will be given a tour of the Iowa Methodist Maternity Center and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This class does not cover Newborn Care, Breastfeeding, or Comfort Techniques. Please see the class schedules to register for those classes.
There is a minimum of two registrants per class. If there are not two families registered, class will be cancelled. If this happens, you will be notified one week before class to reschedule.

Click on the Register Now button above to register for an upcoming class. Registration must be completed online. When registering for a class, there's no need to register both parents; the expectant mom's registration will hold a spot for her support person as well. If you've already registered and need to cancel your registration, please call 515-241-6763.
Class may be cancelled due to low enrollment, inclement weather, or other unforeseen circumstance. If this should happen, you will be notified by e-mail and/or a phone call and given the opportunity to register for the next available class.
