Language Services

UnityPoint Health provides interpretation services for a variety of languages including American Sign Language at no cost to the patient.

UnityPoint Health provides interpreters and auxiliary aid support items to patients and their caregivers who do not speak English and for individuals with disabilities. These services are provided at no cost to patients and their caregivers. Providing these services removes barriers to receiving healthcare and provides equal access and participation in healthcare treatment and education for individuals with hearing, vision, language, speech, or cognitive impairments, including persons with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).

Available Interpreter Services

UnityPoint Health offers video, audio, phone, and in-person interpreting services for persons with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and persons who are Deaf patients. We will provide all the necessary equipment and make all arrangements when needed. Access to an American Sign Language interpreter is available 24/7 via video interpreting.

Requesting an Interpreter  

Patients and/or their caregivers are able to request an interpreter by contacting a team member for assistance.

Auxiliary Aids Support Items

To ensure effective communication for persons with disabilities, patients and their companions, we provide auxiliary aids and services at no cost to patients and their caregivers. free of charge, such as: TTYs, large print materials, telephone handset amplifiers, audio recordings, PockeTalkers (amplifier), telephones compatible with hearing aids, and open and closed captioning of most programs.
These items include: qualified readers, large print materials (as available), reader glasses, communication boards, magnifying cards, voice amplifiers, hearing aid batteries, writing utensils, written materials (as available), TTY/video relay service, select captioning services and other items by request.
