Intended Audience & Purpose
PEARS is for healthcare providers and others who might encounter pediatric emergency situations during their work.
During PEARS, students interact with real patient cases, and realistic simulations and animations to assess and stabilize pediatric patients experiencing respiratory and shock emergencies, and cardiopulmonary arrest. PEARS prepares students to provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until a child can be transferred to an advanced life support provider.
Cost
$75- Registration fee includes continuing education credits and an American Heart Association card. Lunch is not provided. PEARS textbook is not included in the cost of the course.
*A 2015 AHA PEARS Provider Manual is required. You may purchase this paperback book from any supplier you wish. Below are a few options.

Course Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:
- Assess a seriously ill or injured infant or child using general and primary assessments.
- Use the evaluate-identify-intervene approach to recognition and management of a child in respiratory distress or failure, shock, or cardiac arrest.
- Discuss management of the child’s clinical condition including mastery of skills and team dynamic.

Nurses: Continuing education credit hours approved for 7.5 Nursing Contact Hours by Iowa Board of Nursing Provider #31, UnityPoint Health - Des Moines.
The American Heart Association will issue a card verifying the successful completion of the PEARS course. Expiration of the verification will occur two years from the date of issue.

Cancellation Policy
Blank Children's Hospital reserves the right to cancel the program due to insufficient enrollment or inclement weather. In this event, you will be notified and your entire registration fee refunded.
Refund Policy
A processing fee of $30 will be retained for cancellations less than 7 business days prior to the course.
No refund will be available for cancellations less than 2 business days prior to the course.
