Supportive/palliative care is specialized medical care for people dealing with a serious illness. The goal is to improve the quality of life and provide supportive care to you and your family.
About Us
Finley Hospital’s services, in partnership with Hospice of Dubuque, are available for individuals with potentially life-limiting medical conditions such as, but not limited to: heart failure, COPD, Parkinson’s, dementia and cancer.
We help you by:
- Managing pain, shortness of breath, emotional distress, fatigue and improve quality of life
- Communicate closely with your family, healthcare provider and specialist
- Educate you on your medications and make sure you are taking them correctly.
The supportive/palliative care team is located at Finley Hospital. The palliative care team may also travel to a patient’s home, long-term care facilities and assisted living.

Specialized Care
Supportive/palliative care is provided by a specialized team of nurse practitioners, nurses and other supporting team members.
This specialized team works closely with your doctor to provide an extra layer of support.
We make sure:
- You understand your illness and treatment options
- A plan of care that works for you is created and implemented
- Distressing symptoms (pain, shortness of breath, emotional distress) are reduced
- Your comfort, independence and activity is improved
