Intensive Care Unit

UnityPoint Health - Meriter Hospital

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

UnityPoint Health – Meriter has an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for patients who require complex or critical medical care. Remodeled in 2020, the bright, open space has state-of-the-art equipment and 24 large private patient rooms. If you or your loved one requires this high level of care, rest assured you are in expert hands. Care is provided by doctors specially trained in critical care and a multidisciplinary team of specialists from throughout the hospital, all of whom are passionate about providing exceptional care. The ICU also serves as an educational setting for nurses, doctors and other members of the health care team. In addition, the unit may provide opportunities for research in the care of critically ill patients.

Expert Care

In partnership with UW Health, the ICU at Meriter is staffed with an outstanding group of experts. The ICU supports the philosophy of evidence-based, collaborative care. Patient plans of care are developed based on individual patient needs in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, pharmacy, social work, spiritual care, occupational, physical and respiratory therapy, care coordination, and family members. Professional practice is guided by National Standards of Care from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
