Supporting you every step of the way

Outpatient Pediatric therapy services help many infants and children to participate in age-appropriate activities at home, at school, and in the community. The Outpatient Pediatric Therapy team at UnityPoint Health - Meriter provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy for children from birth through adolescence, as well as case management for families who need assistance in problem solving, advocacy, and resource referrals. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures communication amongst the team, as well as with each child’s medical and/or school team as needed.

Our highly trained therapists recognize that each child has unique needs requiring different treatment approaches at different stages of development. Our goal is to help with what is important to you and your child, and to find ways for you to build therapy activities into your everyday life to help your child reach their greatest potential.

Pediatric Therapy Clinic

At the UnityPoint Health - Meriter Pediatric Therapy Clinic, our number one goal is to provide your child with every opportunity to grow, thrive and gain independence. Our Physical and Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists work closely with your family to create care plans that help your child overcome limitations and reach their full potential!

Additional Services & Treatments Available

Physical Therapy
Pediatric physical therapy (PT) may address issues with balance, strength, flexibility, coordination, general mobility or body awareness. Our pediatric PT’s frequently treat children with conditions including (but not limited to): torticollis/plagiocephaly, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, toe-walking, muscle weakness/tightness, muscle strains/sprains, and pain. We can also assist with recommendations for bracing, and acquisition of medical equipment such as standers, strollers, wheelchairs, etc.
Occupational Therapy
Pediatric occupational therapy (OT) is geared toward helping infants and children attain their full potential in many areas of life. Infants and children need to have sensory processing and motor skills for their age-appropriate occupations of regulation, sleep, play, self-help, academics and handwriting skills. OT will help to improve your child’s ability to carry out activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, eating, schoolwork, homework, staying on task with daily routines and social play skills. Therapists often help parents create a “sensory diet” to support infants that are fussy or children with sensory processing differences.
Speech Therapy
Pediatric speech therapy (ST) helps children who have problems with communication or feeding. Your child may have been diagnosed a specific condition that affects development or have general delays in the areas of communication or feeding. Your child may benefit from ST if they have difficulties including (but not limited to): speech sounds, speech fluency, understanding language, expressive language, social interaction, problem solving, feeding and swallowing.
Case Manager
Our Case Managers are available to work with patients and families involved in our Outpatient Pediatric Therapy program. Our Case Managers help families with emotional, physical, and economic concerns related to a child’s diagnosis, treatment, and therapy plan of care. They work with the multidisciplinary team, can refer families to financial and social service resources, and help coordinate with community and educational services.

You may talk with your therapist about scheduling an appointment with a Case Manager.
