Shawn Spooner, MD, FAAFP, CAQSM

Shawn Spooner, MD, FAAFPDr. Spooner received his BS from Iowa State University and his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed a Family Medicine Residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in California where he was Chief Resident. He subsequently completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.

After completing training, Dr. Spooner was deployed to South Korea where he served as Senior Medical Officer and Officer in Charge of a naval health care facility. Dr. Spooner's extensive experience in concussion management stems from his deployment to Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan where he served as Senior Medical Officer of the Concussion Restoration Care Center, a rehabilitation center for treating combat-related concussions and injuries. In addition, he practiced operational military and sports medicine with the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Special Forces. As a sports medicine physician and veteran of the U.S. Navy, Dr. Spooner has unparalleled experience in concussion rehabilitation and treatment.

  • Provides services to many Des Moines area sports teams including Chow's Gymnastics & Dance, ADM High School, Grandview University and the Des Moines Buccaneers.
  • Published work on post-concussion recovery, balance screening, and the effect of exercise on human immune response to illness.
  • Certified to administer the formal Functional Movement Screen (FMS).
  • Administers the FUSIONETICS athlete performance system.
  • Certified/licensed level III U.S. Cycling Coach.

Marc Molis, MD, FAAFP, CAQSM

Marc Molis, MD, FAAFPDr. Molis received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School, completed his residency with the Hinsdale Family Practice Residency and did an internship with Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Molis has been a local area concussion resource for over a decade. He serves on the faculty of Des Moines University and regularly updates the community on concussion care. He is board-certified in sports medicine and family medicine and is a Fellow with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Additional professional highlights include:

  • Experience in performance medicine (previously worked with the Milwaukee Ballet) and team sports medicine care. 
  • Provides services to many Des Moines area sports teams including West Des Moines Valley High School, the Des Moines Cycling Team, Simpson College and the Des Moines Buccaneers. He also has previous experience with the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team.
  • Lectures on concussion management throughout the Des Moines area.
  • Named 2008 Des Moines Top Doctor by DSM Magazine.

Marla Shapiro, PhD, HSP, NCSP

Marla Shapiro, PhDDr. Shapiro received her BA in psychology from the University of Virginia. She completed her graduate training in School Psychology and Developmental Neuropsychology at Georgia State University and her postdoctoral Kirk Dornbush Fellowship in Developmental Neuropsychology. Dr. Shapiro internships include: Emory Clinic Center for Learning and Attention Disorders; DeKalb County Georgia Public Schools, Georgia State University Transition Program for Children with Acquired and Traumatic Brain Injuries. She is a credentialed ImPACT Consultant, RRCA certified running coach and a nationally certified school psychologist. In addition, she is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Iowa Psychological Association and Sports Neuropsychology Society.

Dr. Shapiro has over 20 years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents and adults with brain injuries. She has presented at national and international conferences and is a founding member of the Sports Neuropsychology Society. Additional Professional Highlights:

  • Fellow in the National Academy of Neuropsychology

Lee Cody, DPT

Lee Cody, DPT Lee received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Des Moines University and is certified by the Iowa Board of Physical and Occupational Therapy. His clinical interests include concussions, vestibular and orthopedics. Lee will work hand-in-hand with you, the patient, and your health care team to get you back to living your life.

Kamela Kleppe-Yeager, MS, CCC-SLP

Kamela J. Kleppe-Yeager, MS, CCC-SLPKamela received her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Arizona. She is an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist and is a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). Kamela has extensive experience in the rehabilitation of communication and cognitive changes that occur from injury or illness.

Troy Kleese, LAT, ATC

Troy Kleese, LAT, ATCTroy graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. His clinical interests include sports medicine, concussion management and musculoskeletal injury. He is a member of the Iowa Athletic Trainers' Society, Mid America Athletic Trainers' Association and the National Athletic Trainers' Association, and is the current committee chair of Governmental Affairs for the Iowa Athletic Trainers Society. 

Troy was the recipient of the Iowa High School Athletic Association's Sports Medicine Specialist award in 2002 and 2014. In addition, he was recognized by the Iowa Athletic Trainers Society in 2010 as the High School Athletic Trainer of the Year and received the Athletic Training Volunteer of the Year award in 2015.
