UnityPoint Clinic Multi-Specialty

International Travel Health

Plan for safer, healthier international travel with a pre-travel consultation at the International Travel Health Clinic. We’ll discuss your travel plans to ensure you have the immunizations, medications and destination specific health information you need prior to travel.

Whether you’re traveling for business, vacation, to volunteer, visit family and friends or study, it’s important to see a doctor who specializes in the diseases and health problems associated with overseas travel.

Schedule and prepare your appointment

The best time for a pre-travel consultation is two to four weeks before your trip. However, you can benefit from a medical consultation up to the day of travel. For an appointment, call 319/363-3565.

Bring your itinerary, vaccine records, your WHO International Certificate of Immunization (yellow book) if you have one and a list of medications you are taking.

Which shots will I need?

Our infectious disease specialist determines if you need any vaccines by assessing where and when you are traveling, your past vaccination and health history. You may need one or more of the following:

•    Hepatitis A
•    Hepatitis B
•    Influenza
•    Japanese encephalitis
•    Meningococcus
•    Measles-mumps-rubella
•    Polio
•    Pneumococcus
•    Malaria
•    Tetanus/diphtheria
•    Tetanus/diphtheria/acellular pertussis
•    Typhoid fever
•    Yellow fever

Insurance coverage

We accept most major forms of insurance. Check with your primary care doctor first to see if you need a referral. Also check with your insurance company regarding what services will be covered, prior to your appointment. All uncovered services will be the responsibility of the traveler.
