This diabetes prevention program is brought to you by the Lions Club International Foundation and the Lions Clubs of Grinnell, Kellogg, Montezuma and Victor. Please call (641) 236-2385 to schedule an appointment to receive a full shot. High dose flu vaccinations will be available for those age 65 and up. Please bring a copy of your insurance or Medicare card. If you don't have insurance, the cost is $30.

In the first few days after you and your baby leave the hospital, many changes take place. During the postpartum newborn home visit, the nurse will come to your home to make sure you and your baby are doing well. At a typical home visit, the nurse discusses baby care, new mom care, parenting issues, public health services, programs available and more.

This is a free, optional service available to families who reside in Marshall, Poweshiek and Jasper counties. Call (641) 236-2385 to schedule an appointment. **Families residing in Iowa, Mahaska or Tama counties are still encouraged to call for referrals to care services in those counties.

The decision to breastfeed is a personal one. Breastfeeding provides numerous benefits for you and your baby, and provides a natural way to bond. Our certified lactation consultants at public health are here to provide extensive breastfeeding and education support.

This free service is available to families who reside in Poweshiek, Jasper, Marshall and Tama counties. Call (641) 236-2385 to schedule an appointment at public health, have a phone consultation or learn more information. **Families residing in Iowa, Mahaska or Tama counties are still encouraged to call for referrals to care services in those counties.

The WIC Nutrition service, coordinated by Mid-Iowa Community Action, provides pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants and children up to age five, with vouchers for formula, milk and nutritious food supplies. Participation in the program is based on financial eligibility.

WIC comes to Grinnell Public Health during the following times:

• Third Tuesday of the month, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Fourth Tuesday of the month, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Poweshiek County Healthy Choices Coalition (PCHCC) provides the programming, awareness and tools, for a diverse community of children, youth and adults, that are needed to make healthy lifestyle choices.

• Meetings take place in the Grinnell Public Safety Building on the third Monday of each month (no meeting in August).

The PCHCC seeks to ensure healthy lifestyle choices by providing instruction and support in the following areas:

• Prevention and reduction of drug, alcohol and tobacco use
• Prevention and reduction of child abuse
• Positive family interactions
• Attention to diet and exercise

Clinics are held twice per month for low income and uninsured individuals under the Free Clinics of Iowa umbrella.

• Time: Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m.

Located at Grinnell - Light Center for Community Health, members of the community can borrow medical equipment for up to six months.

• An order from your physician is required for any mobility assistance equipment such as a walker or wheelchair.
• A $20 deposit is collected from the individual who borrows the equipment. A refund will be issued upon return of the equipment.

It is important for Iowans on Medicare to use the open enrollment period, October 15 to December 7, to review their prescription drug plan.

Call (641) 236-2588 to schedule an appointment to review your prescription drug plan with the help of a Senior Health Insurance Information Program and Senior Medicare Patrol (SHIIP-SMP) counselor.
