Welcome to our Preschool Program!
The Badger Sett is a mixed aged classroom with children ranging in age from 3 to 5 years old. In celebration of children, we honor the importance of play during these early learning years of a child's life.
We believe in caring for the development of the whole child –emotionally, physically, cognitively, socially – and in celebrating each child's unique sense of self. We nurture each child with individual, loving attention. We teach the skills and model the respect that fosters a sense of belonging in our "community" of classroom groups. Each day we present a variety of learning activities that are designed to meet the developmental needs of each age group, and to inspire joyful learning, at a child's pace, in many domains. We recognize that children come to us with varied skills, abilities and talents. We develop strategies to support each child in growing and learning to their full potential.
Curriculum and Classroom Schedule
The Badger Room uses emergent curriculum. This can be broken down into three aspects:
Free Choice Play: Materials and toys encourage children to explore, discover and become actively engaged independently or with others.
Group Times: Children learn to speak in group settings, practice taking turns, participate in group games and develop a sense of community.
Projects: Children and teachers work together on an activity or project. These come from the interests of the children and are facilitated by the teacher. Activities promote early childhood skills highlighted by the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards.
Learning is woven into everything we do. Please see our lesson plan posted on our parent board. Please see our attached daily schedule.
Respect for others and the classroom environment is a guiding principal in the Badger Sett. Children are encouraged to be active participants in conflict resolution and problem solving. Techniques like redirection and natural consequences are also used.
The peace table is a positive place where children can resolve everyday conflicts and understand they are a natural occurrence in life. Teachers coach children on how to talk about problems, how they are feeling and how to solve these problems.
What to bring?
Each child has a cubby for their belongings. Parent notes are placed in the basket on the top of the cubbies. We ask you bring the following items.
A blanket and sheet, small pillow and one or two snuggles for nap time. You are responsible for laundering bed linens weekly.
A seasonal change of clothes-shirt, pants, underwear and socks.
In the winter you will need snow pants, boots, hats and mittens.
In the summer you will need a swimsuit and towel.
