Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP)
Celebrating 10 years of improving patient care
Meriter's Hospital Elder Life Program recognizes the unique challenges that many older patients face. HELP volunteers can reduce delirium in hospitalized older patients by keeping them oriented to their surrounding, assisting with eating and drinking, and encouraging movement.
Elderly patients fare much better when cared for by nursing and volunteer staff that are knowledgeable in the specific physiological and cognitive needs of older adults.
Your support provides funding for the purchase of supplies, such as pocket talkers, reading glasses, CDs, music players, art supplies, puzzles, and other activities to keep older patients active and engaged during their hospitalization. Gifts to the program also are used for staff development around best practices in the treatment and care of hospitalized adults with Alzheimer's and dementia, including paying for registration and travel expenses for staff to attend conferences.
