Infectious Disease

Infectious disease (ID) is an internal medicine sub-specialty focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, including those caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Along with the specialized knowledge of ID providers comes a particular insight into the use and effects of antibiotics. ID specialists also have additional training in infection control, immunology (how the body fights infection) and epidemiology (how infections spread). This specialty also offers an international travel health clinic to help you plan for safer, healthier international travel.

International Travel Health

Plan for safer, healthier international travel with a pre-travel consultation at the International Travel Health Clinic. We'll discuss your travel plans to ensure you have the immunizations, medications and destination-specific health information you need prior to travel.

Whether you're traveling for business, vacation, to volunteer, visit family and friends or study, it's important to see a doctor who specializes in the diseases and health problems associated with overseas travel.

NOTE: We DO NOT offer COVID-19 testing required for travel at this clinic. To receive a COVID-19 test, contact your primary care provider.
Schedule & Prepare for Your Appointment
The best time for a pre-travel consultation is two to four weeks before your trip. However, you can benefit from a medical consultation up to the day of travel. For an appointment, call (319) 363-3565.

Bring your itinerary, vaccine records, your WHO International Certificate of Immunization (yellow book) if you have one and a list of medications you are taking.
