Pulmonary medicine focuses on the causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and disorders of the lungs. The lung doctors (pulmonologists) at the UnityPoint Clinic Multi-Specialty Clinic in Cedar Rapids diagnose and treat:

During a pre-travel consultation we discuss your travel plans to ensure you have the immunizations, medications and destination-specific health information you need prior to leaving.
Whether you're traveling for business, vacation, to volunteer, visit family and friends, or study, it's important to see a doctor who specializes in the diseases and health problems associated with overseas travel.

Schedule & Prepare for Your Appointment
The best time for a pre-travel consultation is six to eight weeks before your trip. However, you can benefit from a medical consultation up to the day of travel. For an appointment, call (319) 363-3565.
Bring your itinerary, vaccine records, your WHO International Certificate of Immunization (yellow book), if you have one, and a list of medications you are taking.
Which Shots You Will Need
Our infectious disease specialists will determine if you need any vaccines by assessing where and when you are traveling, your past vaccinations and health history. We offer the following vaccinations:
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Influenza
- Japanese encephalitis
- Meningococcus
- Measles-mumps-rubella
- Polio
- Pneumococcus
- Malaria
- Tetanus/diphtheria/acellular pertussis
- Typhoid fever
Insurance Coverage
We accept most major forms of insurance. Check with your primary care doctor first to see if you need a referral. Also check with your insurance company regarding what services will be covered, prior to your appointment. All uncovered services will be the responsibility of the traveler.
Additional Services
The pulmonary providers at UnityPoint Clinic Multi-Specialty in Cedar Rapids offer screenings, diagnosis and treatment for patients with lung nodules or lung cancer. We connect patients with lung cancer experts to build a comprehensive treatment plan and help schedule procedures such as thoracentesis (sampling of fluid outside the lung), bronchoscopies and lung biopsies. We also insert and manage lung drainage systems.
If you have suspicion of lung cancer, an abnormal CT lung scan or a lung nodule, ask your primary care provider for a referral to one of our pulmonologists.
Studies show individuals who would like to quit smoking or vaping have a greater chance of success when assisted by a healthcare professional. Through the Smoking/Vaping Cessation program at UnityPoint Clinic Multi-Specialty in Cedar Rapids, a nurse practitioner determines the most appropriate method to break your addiction to nicotine by using a combination of counseling and medicine. Our team works alongside patients during their quit attempt to prevent relapse.

To see a pulmonology or infectious disease specialist, call your primary care provider for a referral or message them in the MyUnityPoint patient portal. If you are a referring provider, please print and complete the applicable form and fax it to clinic using the number at the top of the form.
