Penn Mental Health
The Penn Mental Health team of providers consist of four board-certified psychiatrists who work with adults. Our neuropsychologist works with adults as well as children/adolescents and their families. Our team uses a medical management model with supportive consultation and cognitive work to support patients as they proceed through therapy and manage their ongoing lives.
Our psychiatrists and psychologist have experience with many different conditions that affect people at many ages and in many walks of life, including:
- Mood disorders
- Anxiety disorders
- Addictive disorders
- Specific conditions such as schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder
- Dementia disorders that primarily affect older adults

Your Initial Visit
Your first visit to our clinic will include an evaluation by a board-certified psychiatrist or PhD psychologist. Please allow 1 hour for your first visit in our office. At the end of the session, you will be informed of our recommendations for treatment, including the possibility of medication and/or psychotherapy (counseling). We will work with your primary care physician, upon proper release of information, to coordinate your treatment.
We ask that you arrive to your first appointment 15-20 minutes early to complete the required paperwork. Please bring your insurance card with you to the appointment along with a photo ID.
Our office phone number is (515) 263-5000. Phone calls are answered during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday by our office staff. Our office remains open during the lunch hour. All calls after regular business hours are received by the answering service. After hour emergent calls will be directed to the physician on call.
Our psychiatrists divide their time in the office with taking care of their hospitalized patients at Iowa Lutheran Hospital so office hours for our psychiatrists do vary.

Wook James Kim, M.D.
Wook James Kim, M.D. began his psychiatry practice in 1996. His educational background includes degrees from Boston University and the University of Texas at Galveston. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Maryland.
Dr. Kim is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His practice includes treatment for depression, anxiety, mood disorders, bi-polar disorders and schizophrenia. Dr. Kim's personal interests include spending time with his family and a wide interest in music performance.

Shehzad Kamran, M.D.
Shehzad Kamran, M.D. is starting his clinical practice with Penn Mental Health this year. His educational background includes a degree from Khyber Medical College at the University of Peshawar. He completed both his residency and internship at the University of North Dakota.
Dr. Kamran is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His practice includes treatment for depression, anxiety, mood disorders, bi-polar disorders and schizophrenia. Dr. Kamran's personal interests include biking and traveling.
