Child and Adolescent Services

Children face many obstacles while trying to grow and find their identity. The challenge facing parents and children as they cope with these issues can often lead to conflict in everyday life. At Eyerly Ball, we strive to provide the highest level of care for each patient. We work to identify and understand the problems your child is having and then put together a plan for your child  and family to help start the road  to a healthy life.

Our Services 

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at Eyerly Ball offers a continuum of care, beginning with care for children and adolescents, ages 3 and older, who may experience problems at home, in school, or in the community.  Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health team recognizes the need for various levels of care to meet the needs of children and adolescents in central Iowa.

We strive to provide the highest level of care for each client. We work to identify and understand the problems your child is having and then put together a plan for your child and family to help start the road to a healthy, normal life. We work with your child's therapist and any other specialists involved in their care and treatment.

Our care team at Eyerly Ball consists of child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry providers, psychiatric nurses, licensed mental health therapists, and care coordination services for adults.

Children and adolescents may experience:

Kennedy Thoren, DNP, ARNP, PMHNP-BC

Dr. Kennedy Thoren is a Nurse Practitioner with Eyerly Ball. Dr. Thoren received a Doctorate of Nursing from the University of Iowa and is a certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Dr. Thoren specializes in working with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of mental health settings. Her clinical background includes both behavioral health and critical care nursing. She provides services for a variety of mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and others. Dr. Thoren's passion lies in providing compassionate, holistic mental health care, assessing all aspects contributing to each individual's mental wellness. She is dedicated to providing quality mental health care to children, adolescents, and adults living with mental illness. Dr. Thoren sees clients ages 5 and older.

Hannah Overstake, LISW

Hannah is a Licensed Independent Social Worker. Hannah received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Northern Iowa. Hannah specializes in working with children and families. She is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Hannah has worked in school-based settings with kids ranging from toddlers to adolescents. Hannah uses a variety of treatment modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, art therapy, play therapy, and motivational interviewing. She uses a strength-based approach. Hannah sees clients ages 3 and older.

Your Child's First Clinic Visit

Your child's first visit at Eyerly Ball will probably be the longest. Please plan to be at the clinic for approximately one hour. You will want to bring the following information along to your child's first appointment (unless our office has already received it):

  • Referral information from your child's primary provider.
  • Medical records from your child's primary provider.
  • Results of any previous evaluations.
