Biography

Professional Statement

With a background in supporting individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, I’ve worked across inpatient psychiatric units, residential substance use treatment programs, and medical detox settings. These experiences have fueled my commitment to improving access to quality care—especially for rural communities and underserved populations. My mission is to ensure that people receive the support they need and deserve, free from judgment or stigma.

Why did you become a provider?

I chose to become a healthcare provider after witnessing how many of our hospital patients struggled to access timely care. They often faced long wait times, had to travel far just to see a clinician, and still didn’t always receive the level of care they truly needed. Seeing these challenges firsthand inspired me to step in and contribute to the change I hoped to see in our healthcare system.

Why did you decide to join UnityPoint Health?

From the moment I chose to pursue a career as a provider, I knew I wanted to work in Community Health Care. I’ve always believed this setting serves individuals who need the most support, and it offered the greatest opportunity for me to create meaningful change. I joined Abbe Health because their mission aligned closely with my own goals—especially their commitment to expanding substance abuse treatment and psychiatric services in rural communities. The organization’s strong support systems, including Outreach programs, Substance Use and Addiction therapy, and their resourceful approach to securing funding, allow us to ensure every person who walks through our doors can access the care they deserve.

Do you have any medical specialties or special interests that we should be aware of? How do patients benefit? Is it unique to the area?

I have a strong passion for working with individuals who face dual diagnoses. When supporting patients who struggle with both addiction and mental health conditions, we’re able to take a comprehensive approach—combining medication management, therapeutic interventions, and a solid support network to help guide them toward lasting recovery.

What is the ideal provider/patient relationship?

My practice is built on a foundation of trust and mutual respect. I foster an environment of open communication and transparency, as successful treatment requires us to collaborate openly to address core issues. There is no room for shame or guilt here; my patients should feel safe sharing information without reservation, understanding that seeking help is the courageous first step toward healing and recovery.

What would your patients say about you as a provider?

I rely on a collaborative care approach that brings together the patient and their entire care team. I believe that when individuals take an active role in shaping their treatment plan, they are far more likely to stay engaged and achieve meaningful, long-term success.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I truly enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends. Traveling is one of my greatest passions, especially when it allows me to explore new cultures, traditions, and experiences. I also love shopping, thrifting, and finding meaningful ways to give back to others. Part of that involves gathering items like clothing, toiletries, medical supplies, and food to support individuals and families in need. In addition, I frequently speak at community events and participate in educational trainings to help inspire and inform others.
