Federal Grant Brings Advanced Robotic Surgery to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Muscatine
Jul 13, 2026A federal grant will help bring state-of-the-art robotic surgical technology to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Muscatine through the purchase of a da Vinci Xi surgical robot.
Funding for the new robotic system comes from the Iowa Healthy Hometowns Rural Health Transformation Plan. The program is designed to strengthen rural health care, improve patient outcomes, expand the health care workforce and support innovative health care solutions across Iowa.
"Receiving this funding is truly impactful for Trinity Muscatine and the communities we serve," says Rachel Pohl, MSN, RN, Trinity Muscatine Executive Director. "It allows us to continue expanding access to advanced care close to home for our rural patients while supporting the dedicated team members who provide that care every day."
The da Vinci system gives surgeons greater precision and control during surgery, helping them perform many procedures through smaller incisions – even in more complex cases. For patients, that can mean less pain, shorter hospital stays, a lower risk of infection and a faster return to everyday life.
This new robotic system represents a significant investment by UnityPoint Health – Trinity in its mission to improve the health of the people and communities it serves.
"We’re excited about what this technology means for the future of surgical care in the Muscatine community,” says Pohl. “The da Vinci Xi will help us offer advanced procedures locally and continue to meet the needs of our communities for years to come. It also positions us to attract and retain skilled surgeons, including new graduates who are seeking opportunities to work with the latest surgical technology.”
