About Steve Miller, MD

Biography

I spent my first eight years after college working as an aerospace engineer, then went back to medical school because I felt that, as a surgeon, I would have a better chance of making a difference in people's lives. After 23 years as a practicing orthopedic surgeon, I'm grateful to have been given that chance.

Why did you become a provider?
My goal has always been to help people.

Why did you decide to join UnityPoint Health?
I appreciate the system statement, "Know how much you matter to this world."

What would your patients say about you?
Because I treat all my patients the way I would want myself or my family to be treated.

What's the most important thing to know about you?
I'll always do everything in my power to assure that you or your loved ones receive the very best care possible every time I see them.

What's the ideal provider/patient relationship?
It's a partnership between the physician and the patient.

What's most important for patients to know about medical philosophy?
I am your advocate and partner, as well as your physician.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I played football at the Division III level and was a nationally ranked amateur boxer in my younger days. My wife and I are also competitive shooters and members of the U.S. Practical Shooters Association.

Tell us about your family:
I 'm married and have two grown children and six grandchildren. My wife, Valentina, is my best friend but  also a registered nurse/former piano teacher and outdoor enthusiast.
