About Jessica Brecht, tLMFT
Biography
Professional Statement:
As a marriage and family therapist, I engage in therapy from a whole system perspective, how relationships impact symptoms, focusing on strengths and desired outcomes from a solution focused lens. I am interested in exploring the various levels of systems in our lives that promote over all well-being using a biopsychosocial approach.
Why did you become a therapist?
I have worked in human services/social work and case management throughout my career. Mental health is equally as important as our physical health and often can overlap. There is still stigma about seeking help in our society and I feel passionately about bridging the gap to wellness.
Why did you decide to join UnityPoint Health?
I joined UnityPoint Health because I wanted to work somewhere that was in alignment with my personal values.
What would your patients say about you?
Previous patients have listed my calm demeanor and soothing presence. It can be difficult to sit in the discomfort, and I am willing to sit alongside to gain understanding and clarity with each person in the various points of their journey with a safe, compassionate, caring.
What is the ideal provider/patient relationship?
I encourage a therapist/client collaborative approach creating a safe environment to foster resilience, self-confidence and inter-dependence within our life systems.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love all things art related, visual, music etc. so creating art, listening to music or attending concerts are my go-to hobbies.
Tell us about your family:
I have two children and a large extended family that includes marriage and family therapists, physical therapists, nurses and social workers.
