Biography

What qualities best describe the care you provide to your patients? I believe each person has the power to create a meaningful and fulfilling life for themself. I encourage all patients to set small goals that are meaningful to them. People will often hear the phrase “progress not perfection” when working with me. I believe that it's small steps that lead to big changes. I strive to create an environment where people feel understood, supported and powerful. The people I work with can expect me to encourage them and hold them accountable as they work to change their lives. Therapy is a tool for reaching goals, but the real power to change lives in the individual.
Being a healthcare provider, what drives/motivates you each day? I focus on the small successes. It is easy to forget how far we have come when faced with a hard day.
What is the most important message you would like to share with your patients? “These mountains that you are carrying, you were only supposed to climb.” This quote is attributed the author and educator Najwa Zabian and underlies my approach to therapy. No matter what has happened to a person or where they are today, there is hope. People are so much more than their past.
Are there any fun facts that you would like the community to know about you? I played roller derby for the Cedar Rapids Roller Girls and was a Master Gardener with the Linn County Extension Office for many years.
