Smarter Screening Close to Home

The standard of breast health and diagnostic care is continually advancing, and UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital is committed to leading this innovation providing every woman in our community access to the highest-quality care, the most advanced technology, and the information she needs to take charge of her health.

Finley Hospital’s Mammography team includes three certified Radiologic Technologists, supported by a Radiologist working to ensure an exceptional experience for each patient. In 2025, the mammography team performed 2,952 exams and procedures.

Enhancing Our Facilities

In partnership with Finley Hospital, UnityPoint Health – Finley Health Foundation’s Images Through Innovation Campaign will provide advanced 3D mammography and stereotactic breast biopsy equipment—cutting-edge technologies that enable earlier detection, greater accuracy, a more comfortable experience, and improved outcomes for patients facing breast health concerns.

In addition to investing in life-saving equipment, the campaign will assist in supporting a comprehensive renovation of the Radiology Department within Finley Hospital. The 2,780 square foot renovation will consolidate all aspects of Radiology services in one convenient space.

Radiology services include:

• Mammography
• Ultrasound
• Breast Biopsy
• Dexa Scanner
• Support Office
• Waiting Area and Dressing Room

Currently, these services are spread over two spaces within Finley Hospital. Bringing all imaging services together in one cohesive wing, creates a seamless, patient-centered environment enhancing comfort, privacy, and efficiency. This transformation will not only improve the experience for those receiving care but also empower providers with the tools and space they need to deliver exceptional care.

Why Now?

The Iowa Cancer Registry - Cancer in Iowa report for 2025 states, “Iowa continues to have the second highest ageadjusted rate of new cancers diagnosed and is one of only two states with a rising age-adjusted rate of new cancers. At the same time, improvements in detecting and treating cancer, as well as supportive services, have contributed to declining cancer mortality (death) rates.”

Of the estimated 21,200 new cancer cases in Iowa in 2025, 2,940 cases were breast cancer – the highest occurring cancer type in Iowa. Breast cancer is followed by prostate cancer and lung cancer as the highest diagnosed forms of cancer in Iowa.
