Mammograms are the best screening tool to detect and diagnose breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society's guidelines for the early detection of breast cancer, women 40 years and older should have a mammogram screening every year. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women and the leading overall cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55.
