Behavioral Health Services

UnityPoint Health - Des Moines is committed to providing high quality health services. We offer a full continuum of behavioral health services and treatment to meet the needs of our community as well as Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment Services.

Behavioral Health Services offers an extensive spectrum of care covering all age groups and types of programs. Our behavioral health professionals will provide an assessment during an initial visit to determine which level of care is most appropriate for each individual. We ensure confidentiality is maintained at all levels of care.

Mission Statement

"Improving the health of our communities through healing, caring and teaching." Our mission statement gives us the groundwork to practice principles that guide us in delivering quality services.

Support

Although we realize we cannot solve problems for people, our dedicated staff is here to walk with clients through their journey of healing and recovery. We believe in a holistic approach that provides professional assistance, builds family support and links participants to other resources in the community to build upon their strengths.

Hope

The foundation for all healing and recovery is HOPE. We help participants develop the hope they need to achieve their goals.

Recovery

Recovery IS possible. With this philosophy, our staff recognizes that no matter what obstacle participants face, one can achieve success and satisfaction.

Teaching

Our staff believes that teaching not only applies to the situation, but the whole experience. It is the goal of our staff to teach participants a process of healing and recovery.

Listening

In order to gain a clear understanding of who our participants are and what their needs may be, active listening is essential. We realize that participants know their experiences best, so we listen to assist their personal road to recovery.

Feedback

After using our services, we ask participants to provide us with their insight regarding the effectiveness of our programs and services as well as their overall satisfaction of the care they received. This feedback helps us learn what we do well and how we can do even better for others.

Experience is on our side

Since 1965, thousands of Iowa children, adolescents and adults have been served through the behavioral health programs at UnityPoint Health - Des Moines.  We are central Iowa's largest mental health and chemical dependency treatment facility. But more important than size is the depth and quality of our professionals whose concern, commitment and compassion are without equal.

If you or someone you loves suffers from a mental illness, emotional or behavioral problem, you can count on our experience and capabilities.

Make the Connection

Launched in 2011, MakeTheConnection.net connects Veterans, their family members and friends, and other advocates with mental health information, local resources, and Veterans' own inspiring stories of recovery. Visitors can learn about the signs of mental health conditions or substance use problems and find sources of support. The site is free and accessible to everyone.
