In 2018 25 five team members from St. Luke's Women's and Children's Center expanded their own families last year – with three sets of twins to boot. Watch this video to hear about how this team supports each other both professionally and personally!

Cedar Rapids' Baby Hospital had a baby boom in 2018! UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Birth Care Center saw double in 2018 - with 52 sets of twins delivered! That's a record for the Birth Care Center at its current location, which dates back to 2001.

And St. Luke's team members also had their own special deliveries in 2018. Twenty-five team members from St. Luke's Women's and Children's Center expanded their own families last year – with three sets of twins to boot.

St. Luke's Birth Care Center manager recently gathered the team members, with their babies, to take a special photo to mark the occasion. Despite the cold temps 19 employees were able to participate in the picture. The photo will be framed and displayed in the Women's and Children's Center – near the last "baby boom" photo from 2013 when 26 St. Luke's team members expanded their families.

"It's been a fun and challenging year," shares Kathie Manderscheid, St. Luke's Birth Care Center manager. "Of the 25 team members that had babies, 14 work in the Birth Care Center. The 11 others work upstairs in Pediatrics and the NICU. Thankfully their due dates were spread out fairly evenly across the year so we were able to manage all of their maternity leaves without issues. It's been great because we consider ourselves one big family and when our family has joy or sadness we surround one another with love and support – something we extend to our patients day in and day out as well."

Last year nearly 2,400 babies were born at St. Luke's Birth Care Center. St. Luke's is Cedar Rapids' Baby Hospital, which means three out of four babies born in Cedar Rapids celebrate their birthday at St. Luke's.
