About Us

Witwer Children's Therapy has a rich history of providing family-centered children's therapy in Cedar Rapids. Our specialists at UnityPoint Health St. Luke's Hospital Witwer Children's Therapy and UnityPoint Health St. Luke's Hospital Witwer Children's Therapy Southwest work closely with you, your child, family physician and school to design an individualized program that will benefit your child most. We offer occupational, physical and speech therapy. We are one of the largest outpatient pediatric therapy centers in Cedar Rapids and across the state of Iowa.

Our pediatric therapists work with children who have a wide variety of special needs, including:

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Down Syndrome
  • Feeding and Swallowing Difficulties
  • Developmental Disability
  • Sensory Processing Disorders
  • Speech/Language Disabilities

We also work with children who have no formal medical diagnosis, but are not reaching their developmental goals.

What to Expect

Children's Therapy Referral Process
Children are referred by an MD, DO, ARNP, or PA to be evaluated for all therapy disciplines and any subsequent recommended ongoing therapy.
Children's Therapy Financial Assistance
We understand the cost of services may limit decisions for the therapy determined a child needs. Financial assistance may be available by contacting the Witwer Children's Therapy Insurance Team at either office location to discuss.
Special Programs
Children are naturally drawn to learning through positive experiences. Physical, occupational and speech therapists create fun, hands - on activities that appeal to kids, and use various play and social techniques to address specific therapy challenges.
Insurance payment policy

Due to the many types of health insurance plans, we recommend that every parent check with insurance to determine policy requirements for prior approval and benefits for therapy. We can provide you with specific information such as diagnostic and treatment codes that you may need when you call. Please call our Case Manager at (319) 286-4327 if you have additional questions regarding your financial liability.

Therapy services are billed as hospital - based outpatient therapy, not an office visit; you may be required to meet your deductible as well as pay a percentage co-insurance.

For your appointment

Once your appointment is scheduled call to pre-register (319) 369-8109. Please arrive 15 minutes early on your first day of therapy in order to complete necessary paperwork. You can print our medical history questionnaire form, fill it out, and bring it with you to your first appointment.

Have your child wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Items you should bring with you include:

  • Insurance card(s)
  • Photo Identification
  • List of child's current medications
  • Order from physician's office, if given to you to bring
  • Your personal calendar, as your therapist will want to set up future appointments

Please allow between 1-2 hours for your first appointment. Subsequent appointments will be 30-45 minutes in length. Your therapist will discuss your child's medical history, the reason for your visit, limitations, and a plan of care to help your child reach their goals.

If you have questions or concerns about your first therapy visit, please call your clinic location. We're happy to help you and thank you for choosing St. Luke's Witwer Children's Therapy.

Additional Services

Dietitian Services

Complimentary visits with our dietitian are available for all patients being seen by OT, PT or Speech at Witwer Children's Therapy. The dietitian works with parents and caregivers to determine individual nutrition needs for each patient. Often times, occupational therapists will see patients in conjunction with the dietitian when addressing sensory issues or picky eating.

The dietitian works with OT feeding therapy patients, and is part of our feeding clinic team. Nutrition assessments with a dietitian cover food history, medications, and any nutrition concerns of parents, caregivers or primary care physicians/providers. They may also include concerns with feeding difficulties, adjustment or recommendations concerning tube feedings, tips for increasing specific nutrients, education on general nutrition and a well-balanced diet, label reading, or problems with constipation/elimination.

Special Programs
For more information about any of the above Witwer Children's Therapy services, please call (319) 369-8407.
