About the Foundation
St. Luke's Foundation is a not-for-profit organization
dedicated to supporting St. Luke's Hospital in its efforts to improve
the health of Eastern Iowans.
Our Roots
In 1883, Reverend Samuel Ringgold made a passionate plea to the
community of Cedar Rapids to build "a real hospital, so that citizens
and strangers alike can be cared for." The next day, the generous gifts
of community members formed the cornerstone of St. Luke's Hospital.
Their legacy lives on today through the work of the St. Luke's Foundation, and most of all, through the generosity of people like
you.
Our Role
Founded in 1977, St. Luke's Foundation has raised
millions of dollars from the generosity of individuals, corporations and
charitable foundations in order to provide exceptional, compassionate
health care for Eastern Iowans. Our goal is to strengthen St. Luke's
financial foundation in order to meet both current and future health
care needs.
Our Responsibility
As the charitable support organization for St. Luke's Hospital, the area's only Magnet-designated, Top 100 Heart Hospital and Top 100 Hospital, we are committed to providing the support needed to care for men, women and children in Eastern Iowa. We also hope to improve the quality of life through effective, innovative treatments and technologies.
St. Luke's Foundation effectively stewards funds to provide long-term financial support to St. Luke's Hospital. In 2012, more than $2.5 million was raised to build the Ed & Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke's. The Foundation, thus, is in the business of raising funds in support of the Hospital and has personnel and systems in place, as well as, a long track record of effective and responsible fiscal management.
In 2016 St. Luke’s Foundation launched “A Place for Me” to build healthier tomorrows for kids and families throughout Eastern Iowa. Thanks to generosity more than $650,000 was raised to support the amazing Children’s Services at St. Luke’s.
