About This ProviderPrint
I have always had a passion for mental health and helping patients reach their full potential. My entire adult life has been in the mental health field, and I have learned so much from other providers and patients. I have a holistic approach to understand the patient’s biological, social and psychological needs before helping them reach goals through medication and therapy management.
Why did you become a provider?
Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to help others. I became a mental health nurse practitioner to bring awareness to mental health issues and have the opportunity to help patients with their mental and emotional needs.
As a provider, what is your medical philosophy?
My medical philosophy is to not just treat the disorder or disease but the patient as a whole. Providing a therapeutic approach and patient-centered care is key. It is important to determine any barriers the patient may be experiencing and assist them in overcoming these barriers. Understanding their life experiences and perspective is crucial in assisting them to be successful.
What type of care/clinical interests are you most passionate about?
Areas that I am most passionate about are depression, anxiety, attention disorders, suicide prevention, and PTSD.
Why did you choose your specialty?
I chose the mental health field because I have always been fascinated with human behavior and how the mind works. What makes people behave the way they do? Another reason I chose this field is because I have witnessed the lack of access to care for mental health patients. These patients should not have to wait weeks or even months to be seen by a provider. By becoming a mental health provider, I am helping to bridge the gap in access to mental health care.
What qualities best describe the care you provide your patients?
I treat every patient with respect and dignity and treat them the same way I would want my family member to be treated. Providing quality care to my patients and using an empathetic approach is my priority.
Being a health care provider, what drives/motivates you each day?
My passion for mental health and knowing that I can make a positive impact on the lives of my patients and their families and learning from my patients is what motivates me every day.
What is the most important thing patients should know about you and your practice?
That they can feel comfortable with me, and I care about their well-being. What I want my patients to understand is that I am here for them and will support them in their biological, psychological, spiritual and mental health needs.
