Allen Pharmacy Residency Program Awarded Six-Year Accreditation
by UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital - June 18, 2014
Allen Hospital Pharmacy PGY1 Residency Program is excited to announce they were granted accreditation by American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the accrediting body for pharmacy residencies in the United States. Allen was granted 6 years accreditation, the maximum allowed. Accreditation of pharmacy residency programs by ASHP is considered an important driver for excellence, serving as a bridge between education and practice. Residency Director Chris Clayton, Pharm.D., MBA, says,“To receive a 6 year accreditation is an outstanding achievement!”
Although it is a young program, started in 2012, the Allen Residency Program has enjoyed much success. Residents have been instrumental in the implementation of one of the first Tech-Check-Tech programs in the state, as well as pharmacist-completed medication reconciliation, review of adherence to SCIP guidelines, plans for a pharmacist run disease state management clinic, and many other projects. Residents have actively participated in education for providers, staff, students, and patients.
