Allen Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Primary Stroke Center Certification.

On May 24, Allen Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review by the Joint Commission. During the visit, a team of reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including delivering and facilitating the highest quality stroke care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“We are extremely excited to be able to continue to provide the best care and outcomes to the patients in the Cedar Valley and surrounding areas. Continuing to strive for Primary Stroke Center Certification shows our dedication to our community,” says Kate Bolick, stroke coordinator and neurology nurse practitioner.

“In order to maintain primary stroke center certification, we continuously monitor the processes utilized to care for patients who show stroke-like symptoms. We also review patient outcomes to see if there are ways we can improve care,” explains Bolick.

“Primary Stroke Center Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Allen Hospital for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for stroke patients.”
