If Jim Nolen, the lead nurse for UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Radiology & Infusion, is having a bad day, you would never know it.
Fellow co-workers describe Nolen’s upbeat personality as “electric.”
“Jim Nolen’s main focus as a health care professional is his patients. He is always courteous and warm to whomever he comes into contact with,” says manager Sheri Allen.
His lively personality is one of the many reasons Nolen has been recognized as UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Employee of the Month for March.
All St. Luke’s Employee of the Month winners are honored during a surprise ceremony typically set up by their supervisors or fellow co-workers. In Nolen’s case, his ceremony happened in his office that he shares with other co-workers. Nolen’s team set it up like a last minute
“None of us really knew what was going on,” says Nolen.
That was until Nolen spotted a large group approaching the office, including St. Luke’s President and CEO, Lynn Wold, several members of the Senior Leadership team and various staff members.
“Then, I knew it was Employee of the Month, but I didn’t think it was for me,” he said laughing and pointing at his fellow co-workers. “I thought it was for one of them.”
Nominations came in from several different employees all centered on Nolen’s positive attitude and endless compassion for patients.
As the St. Luke’s Employee of the Month for March, Nolen received a special watch from Greenberg’s Jewelers, his own premium
parking space, gift cards to the St. Luke’s Glass Apple Gift Shop, The Parkview Café and a gift certificate to be used at an area restaurant. He will also have the chance to be voted Employee of the Year at the end of the year. That comes with a paid vacation.
