St. Luke's Announces Infection Preventionist and Patient Safety Officer
UnityPoint Health® - St. Luke’s is pleased to announce Kristen Beal, RN, BSN, as Infection Preventionist and Patient Safety Officer. In this role, Beal will provide oversight and implement new tactics and programs to enhance patient safety.
Previously, Beal served as a nurse in the St. Luke’s postpartum and labor and delivery areas for seven years. Prior to joining the obstetrics team, Beal served as an Emergency Department Critical Care Technician.
Highly engaged in many activities, Beal’s professional accomplishments include; nomination for the March of Dimes Nurse of the Year for 2017; led the research study of glucose gel in the treatment of newborn hypoglycemia, contributed to the evidence based practice change for skin to skin in the operating room following C-section; initiated a hospital breastfeeding committee; implemented the Halo Safe Sleep Program; served as a member of the obstetrics unit council; and orientated new employees and served as a preceptor to student nurses.
Beal received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, IA.
Beal’s experience, motivation, strong leadership skills, desire to identify opportunities for improvement, drive initiatives, deliver high quality care and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team will serve as a strong asset to the St. Luke’s Quality Team.
