Siouxland health care organizations welcome medical education students
April 27, 2016
Siouxland Medical Education Foundation, Inc., UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s and Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City will again be sponsoring MECO students this year (May 23 – June 24, 2016).
MECO stands for Medical Education – Community Orientation, and was developed to provide sophomore medical students exposure to a local health care delivery system away from the university setting, and to assist them in making important career decisions. The program is designed to orient 2nd year medical students to the community and a medical perspective of the way in which the health care delivery system contributes to the community’s structure and function. It also provides the participating hospitals and practicing physicians an opportunity to become directly involved with medical students early in their education and training.
This year’s students are all from University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. They are:
- Ellen Gardner
- Grace Lau
- Nicholas Wilson
- Genesis Zamora
