Sioux City, IA--
What’s in a
name? If you ask parents of little ones born in the last year, they might tell
you it’s all about tradition. At UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s, traditional
baby names reigned supreme in 2015.
At St. Luke’s, Evelyn was the top
girl’s name in 2015. Alternate spellings of the name also included Evlyn and
Evalyn. The name beat out Mia, last year’s frontrunner. Other popular girls’ names included Zoey, Mia,
Emma, Sophia, Emily, Andrea, Charlotte, Elizabeth, and Isabelle.
In the boys’ department, Jaxon took
the top spot with some parents choosing alternate spellings including Jaxson, Jackson,
and Jaxin. Other names included Liam, Noah, Henry, Hudson, Alexander, Mason,
Ryker, Brandon, and Daniel. The name Carter, which was one of the top names in
2014, missed the cut of most popular names this year.
While traditional names ruled the
list of most popular newborn names, it’s hard to miss the more creative and
unique names given to some Siouxland newborns. Some of the more creative girls’
names included Lennon, Margarita, Myrical and Mystiq. For the boys, unique
names such as Fenway, Callaway, Hendrix, Madden, Rowdy and Tab were given.
Each year, approximately 2,000
babies are born at St. Luke’s, making the hospital families’ number one choice
for childbirth in Siouxland.
