UnityPoint Health - Sioux City Shares Info to Help Community Navigate New "Normal"

by -

As the Siouxland community enters the next phase of the pandemic, UnityPoint Health – Sioux City wants to help patients and their families navigate the new “normal”. At UnityPoint Health – Sioux City, patients can expect care to look and feel different, but safety remains the top priority.

“I think we can all agree our world looks and feels different than it did three months ago,” said Lynn Wold, President and CEO. “We’ve learned a great deal about the virus since this all began. We’re still learning to navigate this new normal, but I want to assure the community we do have the ability to safely address more of our patient’s health care needs than we did a few weeks ago. And our number one priority hasn’t changed - the health and safety of our patients, communities and team members remains at the center of everything we do.”

Care May Look and Feel Different

When visiting a hospital or clinic, patients can expect to see all team members, patients, and visitors wearing masks. Many clinics are also utilizing a virtual waiting room that allows patients to wait safely in their vehicles until an exam room is ready.

Additionally, all patients admitted to UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s are now tested for COVID-19 including planned admissions and transfers of all ages who have not been tested for COVID-19 in the prior 72 hours.

As a reminder, under the direction of UnityPoint Health’s infection prevention specialist, UnityPoint Health – Sioux City screens, tests, and treats COVID-19 patients in designated areas of the hospital and clinics, to reduce risk. Visitor restrictions remain in place.

Variety of Care Options

UnityPoint Health – Sioux City has many options for receiving care including in-person visits, video visits with an individual’s care team, virtual visits, urgent care visits and the emergency department.

“Being able to offer a variety of options for patients is important,” said Wold. “We’re proud to be able to provide options for the Siouxland community. No matter what you need, or how you want to connect with us, we are here for you and your family."

UnityPoint Health – Sioux City continues to encourage people with a chronic illness to receive care that’s important to their conditions. Adults and kids alike should also continue receiving routine care, like wellness visits and vaccines.

If individual has a medical emergency, please do not hesitate to call 911 or come to the emergency department.
