List of National Critical Access Hospitals includes Several UnityPoint Health Affiliates

Five UnityPoint Health hospitals are listed in the Chartis Center for Rural Health 2019 Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals. Greater Regional Health (Creston), Loring Hospital (Sac City), Cherokee Regional Medical Center, Humboldt County Memorial Hospital and UnityPoint Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (Anamosa) are 5 of the 15 Iowa hospitals to make the Chartis list. This designation is a significant demonstration of performance excellence for critical access hospitals across the country.

“This award is a reflection of all the amazing work that is done by our team members each day and we are proud to have now received this award for six consecutive years,” said Julie Fenoglio, Interim CEO/President, Cherokee Regional Medical Center, an affiliate of UnityPoint Health – Sioux City. “They work hard to provide high-quality healthcare and strive to achieve the best outcome, every patient, every time.”

These rankings are used nationally by state offices of rural health, health systems and rural hospitals to grade rural hospital performance. The State of Iowa has more Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals than any other state in the country. Critical Access Hospital is a designation given to eligible rural hospitals by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Iowa has 82 Critical Access Hospitals, only Kansas has more (83).

In addition, UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center (Fort Dodge) is listed on Chartis’ Top 100 Rural and Community Hospitals. Trinity is one of four Iowa hospitals to receive this distinction in 2019.
