Speakers announced for the 41st Annual Perinatal Conference

UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s will host the 41st Annual Perinatal Conference on Wednesday, May 27, from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at St. Luke’s Institute for Health Education Auditorium at the hospital in Sioux City. The conference offers continuing education credit for physicians, mid-levels, nurses and other health care professionals from across the region who provide prenatal and perinatal care to mothers and newborns.

This year’s conference will highlight a number of important prenatal and perinatal topics including pregnancy complications in diabetic women and the effects on newborns, latest updates on neonatal orthopedic conditions, research to enhance the skills of breastfeeding families, and the new guidelines for preeclampsia and gestational hypertension. The keynote address on Lessons Learned: Measures to Improve Perinatal Safety will be presented by Phillip N. Rauk, MD, FACOG, Associate Professor, Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology & Women’s Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

Other conference faculty include Paul J. Eastman, MD, FACOG, Obstetrician and Gynecologist of Siouxland Obstetrics and Gynecology, P.C. in Sioux City, Iowa; Paul W. Esposito, MD, Professor of Orthopedics and Pediatrics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Clinical Services Chief of Orthopedics at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska; Alfred Fleming, MD, FACOG, Obstetrician and Gynecologist of UnityPoint Clinic - Maternal Fetal Medicine in Sioux City, Iowa; Bonnie J. Lees, MD, Neonatologist of Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska; and Jean Rhodes, PhD, CNM, IBCLC, President of Rhodes Research and Consulting in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Continuing education credit will be awarded for nurses and CME and AAFP credit is approved for physicians and mid-level providers. The cost of the conference is $89 and $99 after May 20. 2015.
