St. Luke’s College – UnityPoint Health has purchased a gently used piece of equipment for students majoring in the Radiologic Technology program. The C-Arm is a mobile imaging unit used primarily for fluoroscopic imaging during surgical and orthopedic procedures.

“We’re so excited to acquire this high technology equipment for our students,” says St. Luke’s College President, Kendra Ericson, PhD, RN. “Students at St. Luke’s College are the only radiologic technology majors within an 80-mile radius that will have access to this type of machinery. It will allow them to practice and gain skills in a safe environment without interfering with patient care.”

The equipment was purchased with the help of the UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Foundation.

“We were happy to help St. Luke’s College purchase this equipment for its’ students,” says Kari Winklepleck, President of the Foundation. “We’re always looking for ways to support efforts that will improve patient care in our community, and the students having access to this machine will absolutely do that.”

The C-Arm was delivered on the afternoon of January 26. Students are expected to begin utilizing the machine in February 2022.

“We’re thankful to our wonderful graduates and alumni who provide us with valuable feedback that ultimately leads to improvements in how we train our students,” says St. Luke’s College Radiographic Technology Program Director, Brittni VanderMolen, M.H.A. “This will not only benefit current and future students of our Radiology Programs, but the patients they care for throughout their careers as healthcare professionals.”
