UnityPoint Health - Trinity volunteers are an engaged group dedicated in helping provide exceptional health care to the Quad Cities community. Volunteer services strives for a positive and meaningful volunteer experience. As a volunteer, you are also included in Friends of Trinity, a group with a mission to support UnityPoint Health – Trinity through volunteering and donations. 

Ways to Volunteer

Hospital team members request volunteer assistance based on specific departmental needs. Opportunities exist during all times and at all our locations, but the majority of positions occur during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you are wanting to volunteer at the Muscatine campus, please call (563) 263-8443.

VolunTeen (14-18 years of age)

Teens in good academic standing are welcome in our volunteer program. Please indicate on your application that you are a VolunTeen. If you are a teen wanting to volunteer at our Muscatine campus, please call (563) 263-8443.

Available Positions

Befrienders (Rock Island)

Provide spiritual comfort to patients by request.

Cancer Center (Moline)

Assist Trinity Cancer Center team members by delivering specific items such as blood samples, escorting patients to other departments and helping with clerical work. Mobile positions; must be able to walk distances.

Caring Canines (Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island)

This program uses specially trained and qualified dogs to provide an opportunity for patients to benefit from interaction.

Church Callers (Pastoral Care) [Rock Island]

Volunteers make phone calls to notify churches when parishioners are in our care. They also greet visitors and take calls for the department, referring them to chaplains as necessary.

Emergency Department Ambassador (Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island)

Assist medical team members with tasks including wiping down bed in rooms, collecting supplies such as blankets for patients and giving additional attention to families and patients. Good opportunity to view a medical professional. Mobile position; must be able to stand for periods of time and walk distances.

Floral (Rock Island)

Assist in daily and seasonal assembling of floral arrangements and plans for giftshop, web/customer orders and special events.

Giftshop (Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island)

Interact and provide customer service to the public with duties such as stocking merchandise and operating basic computer and monetary machines.

Giftshop Inventory/Pricing (Rock Island)

Helps volunteer team members behind the scenes with preparing new inventory for giftshops. Must have a good attention to detail.

Infusion Center (Moline)

Assist infusion center team members in greeting and assisting those who enter infusion center. Assist with tasks such as filing patient charts, delivering products to and from lab and transporting patients via wheelchair. Mobile position.

Knitting/Crocheting (Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island)

Knits or crochets: baby hats, blankets, octopi, prayer shawls and other items of comfort for specific patients. At home/remote position.

Lobby Ambassador (Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island)

Welcome and assist people as they enter facilities. Assist by answering questions about locations in the hospital, pushing wheelchairs, transporting blood or specimens to lab and other various tasks. Very mobile position; must be able to consistently move.

Materials Management/Mail Room (Bettendorf, Rock Island)

Assists with the smooth function of the stockroom by stocking/rotating inventory and sorting mail in the mail room. This individual should reflect a pleasant, helpful image and have a genuine desire to help others. 

Medical Records (Bettendorf and Rock Island)

Assists team members in picking up medical records throughout the hospital; such as nurses' stations, medical offices, etc. Mobile position; requires a lot of walking.

Dispatcher (Rock Island)

Receives phone request for runner from various hospital team members - records request and dispatches runner. Must be pleasant and good at receiving instruction via phone.

Runner (Rock Island)

Receives request from dispatcher to travel to certain locations of the hospital to deliver or pick up items such as specimens, trays, mail, etc. Very mobile and active position.

Radiology (Women's Imaging) [Moline]

Assist women's imaging with stuffing envelopes, including patient information and flyers.

Special Projects (Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island)

Assists with projects such as blood drives, flu shot clinics and Friends of Trinity vendor sales throughout the year. Must have a positive attitude, be friendly and attentive to detail.

Surgical Host and Greeter (Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island)

Assist family and friends of surgical patients by providing knowledge of hospital rules and communication from hospital team members involved with surgery.

All prospective volunteers must:

  • complete a volunteer application (online)
  • take a TB test
  • complete a background check
  • be vaccinated against COVID-19
  • complete an online orientation session or attend an in-person two-hour orientation
  • volunteer for a minimum of two four-hour shifts per month
