Teddy Bear Clinic Celebrates BirthPlace Expansion at UnityPoint

Bring Your Kids to our Teddy Bear Clinic at Trinity Bettendorf

Being a kid is awesome. It’s a time when imagination runs wild and play is a necessary daily activity. And it’s even better when playing and learning are combined.

The Trinity Health Foundation recently completed their Best Beginnings fundraising campaign to expand the BirthPlace at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Bettendorf, and they are celebrating with local families by hosting a Teddy Bear Clinic for local children.

Families are invited to bring their little ones along with their favorite teddy bear, stuffed animal or doll for a visit with a nursing student. Children will be able to play doctor as they check their teddy bear’s heart rate, blood pressure, find out what happens during an x-ray, assist with a breathing treatment and more. The visit will take approximately 10 minutes, and there will be cookies and punch.

More than $1.5 million was raised by a volunteer-led committee to expand the BirthPlace. In 2004 when Trinity – Bettendorf opened, more than 100 babies were born. In 2016, nearly 1,000 babies were welcomed. In the areas served, the population most likely to need obstetric care –those ages 20 – 44 is expected to grow up to 9.8 percent in the next five years. Trinity responded to the community’s needs with this campaign to welcome babies with a best beginning.
