About Sherif T. Abuserewa, MD
Biography
I'm dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with complex respiratory and critical care illnesses. My interest lies in both acute intervention and long-term management, driven by a profound motivation to stabilize life-threatening conditions and patient outcomes. I'm committed to fostering patient and family understanding and ensuring continuity of care.
Why did you become a provider?
The most scary thing is to be out of breath, and I'm here to take care of that.
Why did you decide to join UnityPoint Health?
The very friendly work environment. I don't like big cities.
Describe your average patient:
Patients with COPD or ILD who can't breath, or patients always feeling tired and sleepy because of sleep apnea.
What would your patients say about you?
I listen well to patients and try to be very thorough in history and examination.
What's most important for patients to know about your medical philosophy?
I did pulmonary medicine residency in Ain-Shams University Hospitals for three years, then I was a clinical instructor in the Pulmonary medicine department in Ain-Shams University Hospitals for a year. Then, I moved to the USA, where I did receive training at the MD Anderson Cancer center, University of Chicago and at Cleveland Clinic for few months. I worked as a pulmonary hypertension research fellow at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for nine months.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I'm a big fan of soccer and a very good swimmer. I like to spend my free time with my wife and daughter.
