About Johnna Gary, OTD, OTR/L
Biography
Professional Statement:
As a pediatric occupational therapist, my practice is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and a strong commitment to supporting children and families in the activities that matter most. My specific areas of interest include autism, sensory processing, emotional regulation, handwriting, and picky eating. I strive to create a supportive environment where children and families always feel safe, understood, and empowered to pursue their goals. By collaborating closely with families and other caregivers, I aim to build practical skills, promote confidence and independence, and enhance each individual's quality of life by fostering engagement in the occupations that mean the most to them.
Why did you become an occupational therapist?
I became a pediatric occupational therapist because I'm passionate about helping children discover their strengths and supporting families through meaningful, everyday challenges. I've always been compelled by the unique way occupational therapy blends creativity, compassion, and problem-solving to improve a child's confidence, independence, and overall quality of life through the use of play and other valued occupations. Knowing that I can help children participate more fully in the moments that matter, whether at home, at school, or in the community, is what originally inspired me to pursue this profession and is what continues to motivate me every day!
What is the most important thing for patients to know about your practice?
My practice is a place where empathy guides every decision, families are valued partners in the therapeutic process, collaboration is essential, and every step forward is centered on helping your child thrive in the activities they love most. My goal is to improve each child's quality of life and independence by focusing on the activities that truly matter to them - the occupations that bring them joy, connection, and a sense of accomplishment. Above all else, I hope to create a supportive environment where children always feel understood, confident, and capable.
