Isabella Holland, MS, LCGC, chose to pursue genetic counseling to support patients’ autonomy in how they utilize their family history and genetic information to make decisions about their healthcare. Genetic testing is one tool that can help us understand a person’s health risks, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. The utility of genetic testing depends on each person’s unique circumstances, and the choice about whether or not to pursue it is up to you! As a genetic counselor, her role is to help interpret your personal and family history and help you decide if genetic testing is right for you.
