Biography
Dr. Formaro is a Des Moines native. A Southeast Polk Ram and Drake Bulldog, he received his medical degree at Des Moines University, and completed his General Surgery residency at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He is board-certified in General Surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, Dr. Formaro enjoys the broad range of general surgery procedures. He routinely performs thyroid, breast, colon, gallbladder, hernia, soft tissue, and abdominal procedures. Dr. Formaro has performed hundreds of Robotic surgeries on the Da Vinci platform.
Dr. Formaro has a special interest in medical education and holds the rank of Assistant Professor at Des Moines University – College of Osteopathic medicine. He is a course director for the Basic Medical and Surgical Skills course in the Simulation center, gives surgical lectures to medical and PA students, and is a clinical preceptor and clerkship director at DMU.
