Intended Audience

Healthcare professionals who care for patients who have cancer.

Purpose

To enable the learner to apply the latest advances in the care of patients who have cancer, including medical, surgical and symptom management.

Conference Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this conference, the participant should be able to:

·        Develop strategies to streamline referral pathways to pelvic health physical therapy, enhancing care coordination, timely access and functional outcomes across cancer survivorship

·        Define the role of palliative care for oncology patients

·        Discuss resources to address financial toxicity including disability, access to income and health insurance, and options for paying for treatment

·        Name three reasons for rising cancer rates in Iowa

·        Understand pathophysiology, clinical presentation of common metabolic emergencies and identify high-risk patients

·        Identify strategies that may benefit your patients experiencing cognitive changes

·        Summarize the role of the oncology nurse in identifying barriers to care in the adolescent and young adult patient population

·        Recognize strategies to prevent or recover from compassion fatigue

Continuing Education Credit

UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, awards 7 contact hours for full attendance, as this program aligns with the Iowa Nursing Board 655, Chapter 5 with appropriate subject matter.

• Take the Keo Way exit from I-235. Go south on Keo Way.
• Turn right onto 12th Street
• Go straight at the stop sign.
• Follow the road as it curves around the Iowa Methodist campus.
• Turn left and park in the parking ramp on the west side of the campus (parking is free).
• Take the south elevators to Level 1. Proceed straight down the corridor to the Kelley Conference Room.
