Purpose

This workshop gives the practicing emergency provider current information and hands-on training to improve image acquisition and interpretation of point of care ultrasound. New this year, experts in Trauma Surgery, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Critical Care will deliver presentations on the latest in patient care in these areas. Practicing emergency ultrasound experts will provide presentations on each ultrasound topic. This will be followed by small group breakout sessions where participants scan live models. During breakout sessions, there will be a hands-on advanced airway management workshop in which participants will be able to work hands on with faculty to hone advanced airway skills. Each small group will have an expert facilitator to ensure individualized attention and teaching that fits each participant's needs and skill level.


Topics

The theme for this workshop is ultrasound guided procedures, advanced airway procedures and emergency ultrasound, trauma, critical care, pediatrics and will include the following topics and more! 

  • Basic and Advanced Cardiac Ultrasound, including ultrasound in cardiac arrest and resuscitation
  • Trauma Care
  • Critical Care
  • Pediatric Emergency Care
  • Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
  • DVT Studies
  • Ultrasound guided nerve blocks
  • Ultrasound "Grab Bag” 
    • Ultrasound-guided IV placements 
    • Eye exams (e.g., retina and optic nerve) 



Learning Objectives

  • Identify relevant anatomy with ultrasound. 
  • Describe safety measures and interventions for point-of-care ultrasound in emergency medicine. 
  • Evaluate technical processes to perform cardiac, musculoskeletal and pulmonary exams. Additionally, ultrasound guided nerve block anatomy and procedural skill.
  • Understand latest trends in trauma, pediatric and critical care.
  • Compare typical findings in normal and pathologic states.
