Program Title: The STABLE Cardiac Module
Location: Simulation Center, 1st Floor, Center for Women’s & Children’s Health

Purpose:
Cardiac STABLE provides general guidelines for the assessment and stabilization of neonates with suspected, severe forms of congenital heart disease.
Target Audience:
Healthcare personnel who provide care to maternal and neonatal patients: nurses, Paramedics, EMT's, Respiratory therapists, physicians, nurse practitioners.
Continuing Education: UnityPoint Health is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Cost: No charge for the 6.75 contact hours for UnityPoint Health team members.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
1. List at least three factors linked to increased risk for CHD.
2. Describe at least 5 components of physical exam in neonates, including changes in vital signs that may indicate the presence of congenital heart disease.
3. Differentiate between the clinical presentation of left outflow tract forms of CHD and cyanotic forms of CHD.
4. Explain where blood flows when Prostaglandin E1 is utilized to establish a right to left versus a left to right ductal shunt.
AGENDA
0800-0915: CHD: Left-Sided obstructive lesions
0915-0930: BREAK (15 minutes)
0930-1100: CHD: Cyanotic Lesions and Ductal Dependent Cyanotic Lesions
1100-1130: Case Study #1 (Transposition)
1130-1200: LUNCH (30 minutes)
1200-1300: History and Physical Exam
1300-1330: Case Study #2 (Interrupted Aortic Arch after BP)
1330-1345: BREAK (15 minutes)
1345-1445: STABLE Modifications Specific to CHD
1445-1515: Evaluations and Adjourn
Fees/Cancellation/Refund
- The registration fee includes workshop materials, processing fee, and contact hours if requested.
- We reserve the right to cancel this program due to insufficient registration or inclement weather. If cancellation occurs, we will attempt to reach you. If the weather causes cancellation, announcements will be made on area radio stations. In either event a full refund will be given to you.
- If maximum registration has been reached, your payment will be returned in full. You may withdraw your registration if we receive a written request three business days before the program. Continuing Education Credit
- St. Luke’s Nursing Continuing Education will award credit only on the basis of full completion of the program. A record of your participation will be on file at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital for 4 years following the program completion.
- Duplicate copies of your contact hour certificate are available upon request to Staff Development/Nursing Continuing Education.
