To assist in the organization of care provided for the high risk neonate requiring stabilization and transport.


OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Define the acronym S.T.A.B.L.E.
  • Review the care of the infant at risk for temperature instability/ hypoglycemia, airway insufficiency and circulatory collapse.
  • Evaluate lab work essentials for the high-risk neonate in need of stabilization and transport.
  • Discuss supportive care of the family of the infant in need of transport
  • Describe the quality improvement process through case study discussion

INTENDED AUDIENCE:

Healthcare personnel caring for infants in need of stabilization and transport for advanced care.


COST:

EMT, RT, RN - $50

NP, PA, MD - $60


CONTINUING EDUCATION:

Approved for 7.25 contact hours by the Iowa Board of Nursing Provider #31 UnityPoint Health, Des Moines.


COURSE SCHEDULE:

8:00 a.m. Safety and Sugar

9:30 a.m. Break

9:45 a.m. Temperature Stabilization 

10:45 a.m. Artificial Breathing

Noon Lunch

1:30 p.m. Blood pressure

2:30 p.m. Break

2:45 p.m. Lab work evaluation and interpretation

3:45 p.m. Emotional support of the Family/Quality Improvement/Case Study

4:00 p.m. Comprehensive Post Test/Evaluations

4:30 p.m. Adjourn


FACULTY & INFORMATION

This course is taught by instructors from Blank Children’s Hospital. Minimum class size is required. Participants must be registered prior to course date.


REFUND POLICY:

Blank Children’s Hospital reserves the right to cancel the program due to insufficient enrollment or inclement weather. In this event, you will be notified and your registration fee will be refunded or applied to another class date.


CANCELLATION POLICY:

Due to the high demand for this course, a processing fee of $30 will be retained for cancellation less than 5 business days prior to the course.

Directions

The Education & Research Center (ERC) is located on the ground level of the Iowa Methodist Parking Garage. The Iowa Methodist Parking Garage is located on the west side of the Iowa Methodist campus, on the corner of Pleasant St. and 14th Place. We recommend parking in the Iowa Methodist Parking Garage and take the South parking garage elevators to Level 1. After exiting the elevator, you will be in the ERC.
