UnityPoint Health Acquires MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center
Sep 02, 2025We are excited to share that UnityPoint Health assumed ownership of MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center, including the hospital and several of its facilities, on September 1, 2025. The new name is UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s – Downtown.

“This is an important milestone for UnityPoint Health, our providers and team members, and most importantly, the patients and communities who rely upon these institutions for care,” said Scott Kizer, President and Chief Executive Officer of UnityPoint Health. “Patients can feel reassured that we will continue to provide the high-quality care they have come to know and expect from our organizations.”
“When we announced our intention to transition ownership to UnityPoint Health in May, we knew it was the best way to sustain and enhance non-profit healthcare in Sioux City,” said Bob Ritz, Chief Executive Officer, MercyOne. “I am grateful for the hard work of the entire MercyOne team and our new colleagues at UnityPoint Health over the last several months that has brought us to this moment.”
With the transition of ownership now complete, the work of bringing MercyOne colleagues into the UnityPoint Health family is just beginning. “I know everyone at UnityPoint Health is excited to welcome our new MercyOne colleagues and looks forward to working together to care for Siouxland,” said Jane Arnold, Market President of UnityPoint Health – Sioux City. “We share a commitment to exceptional patient care and making a difference in the lives of our patients and communities.”
Today and in the weeks ahead, UnityPoint Health and MercyOne team members and providers will continue to deliver care and conduct business as usual. In the coming months, clinical and administrative leadership will look for opportunities to sustain and enhance services. Any changes will be executed thoughtfully, collaboratively and in close coordination with patients, providers and the Siouxland community.
