Allen College Completes $4 Million Sim Lab Expansion

Allen College, an affiliate of UnityPoint Health, has completed a major expansion and renovation of McElroy Hall, enhancing hands-on learning opportunities for future healthcare professionals.

The $4 million expansion of the Van G. Miller Family Charitable Foundation Simulation Center for Clinical Excellence added 8,000 square feet to McElroy Hall, which is located across the street from the main campus. The project quadrupled the simulation lab space, giving nursing and health sciences students access to advanced, real-world learning environments.

The expansion includes special classrooms along with a nurses’ station and debriefing rooms, four medical/surgical simulation rooms, four clinic simulation rooms, a home health space, a new entrance and reception area, and student study spaces. The sim lab also features virtual reality headsets and other advanced technology designed to mirror today’s healthcare settings.

The project reflects Allen College’s continued investment in students, faculty and the future health care workforce, helping graduates build the skills and confidence needed to meet the evolving needs of patients.
