Life-Changing Results After Aquablation for Enlarged Prostate

After months of discomfort and uncertainty, Jeff found relief and a renewed sense of confidence from a new, minimally invasive treatment for an enlarged prostate.

Living With an Enlarged Prostate

Jeff spent nine months using a catheter, a thin tube that helps empty the bladder, while managing benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate.

“It was incredibly frustrating,” Jeff says. “Wearing a catheter made me feel less like myself. I was self-conscious and hesitant to go anywhere. I stayed home for weeks.”

With the guidance of Morris Gist, MD, UnityPoint Clinic Urology – Moline, Jeff learned about a new treatment option for men with BPH called aquablation.

What Is Aquablation?

UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island is the first in the Quad Cities to offer aquablation using the HYDROS™ Robotic System. This minimally invasive procedure uses real-time imaging and a heat-free waterjet to precisely remove excess prostate tissue, helping relieve the urinary symptoms associated with BPH.

“Aquablation gives us a very precise and personalized way to treat BPH,” Dr. Gist says. “Using real-time imaging, we can target only the tissue causing obstruction. Because it’s heat-free and robotically assisted, patients often experience fewer long-term side effects and a meaningful improvement in their quality of life.”

Life After Aquablation Treatment

After undergoing the procedure in May 2026, Jeff says the results are life-changing.

I have less discomfort when I urinate, better bladder control and I don’t worry about living with a catheter anymore. It’s made a huge difference in my day-to-day life,” Jeff says.

Dr. Gist notes that many patients with BPH initially choose medication over surgery due to concerns about complications affecting urinary or sexual function. Aquablation is designed to minimize those risks, while helping reduce or eliminate the need for ongoing medication.

“For the right patient, this can be a truly transformative option,” Dr. Gist says. “It allows us to treat symptoms effectively while preserving quality of life.”

For Jeff, the impact is clear.

“This is one of the best things that’s happened to me,” he says. “I feel like myself again.”
